Just as bricks are to building, colours are to interiors. Colour has an impact not only on the size and feel of a room, but also on the mood of those moving through them. Colour can have an affect on the overall flow of your home, and how you utilise each space. Its a powerful design tool that can make the rooms in your home fell more soothing, joyful, comfortable or dramatic.
Henri Matisse famously said: “With color one obtains an energy that seems to stem from witchcraft.” From this we takeaway the colors we see and use are nothing less than magical. They bring an energy into a room, or to an outfit, or to a building, that is undeniable.
Typically, colours that fall in the warm category, tones like red, orange, and yellow can energize a space and those within. More vibrant they tend to inspire confidence and promote intimacy. Generally, these colours work well in entertaining spaces like dining rooms. For example, red is known to raise energy levels, so perfectly suited to a dining room. Yellow evokes joy and happiness, so you may consider for a kitchen. In turn, avoid these colours for places of relaxation, like the bedroom. Keep in mind, warm tones can make a room fell smaller, so choose wisely if the space is on the cosy side.

Cooler tones, like blue, green and purple create quiet, relaxing zones. Blue comes in many differing shades, for example, lighter blue colours are great for bedrooms or reading rooms, as they calming and friendly. Darker blues could be considered for offices or studios as these tones are associated with productivity and workplaces.

Neutrals and monochromes are a basic necessity for interior design, they can be part of an overall colour scheme or can be used as your main, secondary and accent colours, in varying shades. A neutral monochromatic colour scheme creates a relaxing and peaceful environment.
