Health Life Design presenter and personality, John Eussen, sat down with TSF Managing Director, Stephen Moore, to share more about the man behind it all discussing why and how the architectural company came to be.
Who is Stephen Moore? Who is the man behind the brand?
Stephen – “Well, we ran a commercial business for many years and we saw a need in the marketplace for a service to help people all the way through the process.
One of the trigger points for that was; people will have a set of plans that an architect will give a building estimate on and when it’s properly quoted, that estimate is found to be nowhere near the reality.
Now, look it stills happens today, unfortunately. We get clients that come in at our Tender phase with a set of plans, we look at those plans, we ask them what their budget is and often it’s nowhere near… And that’s what goes back to our unique three-step process, in that, when we’re talking to clients coming on board to the architectural process, we talk about the budget.”
“Whilst we are not the design police, we want to make sure that clients are aware that the changes that they may want to put in, or ideas that they might have may exceed their budget. So, we are dealing with that up front, we are not dealing with it later on after we have spent a considerable amount of money on getting approval, going out to Tender, and then finding out that there is no relationship between the budget and the actual design.”
John – “I think it’s incredibly important because it is a ‘top of mind’ thing. And clearly when we don’t have endless amounts of money…”
Stephen – “Everybody’s got a budget.”
With this being a ‘one-stop-shop’, does it make the approval process quicker having the Project Management side of things?
Stephen – “It does. And also, out of the experience. Typically we are running over 100 projects at any one time in Sydney, so we have experience in every council. And often multiple applications going through each council at the same time.
Our Clients Services team have a very good relationship with the councils and the council planners. We find that helps us get our applications approved quicker.”
